Bside/4 U is Tanner Ross’ latest release off Art Departments No.19 label and significantly their 19th release, 19th release off the label No.19 you say, this must be special then? Well it is…

Tanner Ross well known and respected for his work with Soul Clap (as Sect) with releases for Freerange, Dirty Bird and Culprit to name a few has dropped his first solo EP on No. 19 Music.

“4U” features Flo Night on vocal duties and starts off as a slow burner with long revebed vocal stabs that pitch up and down until the deep funk Moog bassline kicks in.

“bSide”, which I first heard in an Art Department mix and caught my interest, hits off with a slow build up of signature Disco drums and a reverbed desert snake charming flute. This slowly builds into a low slung bass groove that loops with infectious repetitiveness whilst the flutes take us on a psychedelic trip through space and time.

The Deniz Kurtel (Crosstown Rebels/Wolf + Lamb) remix strips down the original and almost simplifies but definitely gives it a new dimension which in my opinion works, if anything giving it a new direction.

All in all Tanner Ross does not disappoint and if this is the quality we can expect from No.19 music label then we’re all in for a great ride.
